There are barracks on the common for the training of recruits for the depot of the Essex regiment & are capable of containing about 1,500 men; adjoining is a garrison chapel of which the Rev Joseph henry Sutton Moxly BA of Trinity College, Dublin, has been chaplain since 1892

It is not only a great place to study, but also a foreleader in technology at an UK leading University with courses and doctoral research in Robotics, Natural Engineering, Intelligent Systems, Embedded Systems, Networking and Photonics, Laser Technology etc.
